Project Overview

Gilead, a global leader in pharmaceutical innovation, needed to retrofit an Edmonton facility to support a new production line. The project required specialized HVAC systems that could meet strict pharmaceutical manufacturing standards, including contamination control, explosion-proof exhaust, and high-pressure airflow. Retrofitting within an existing structure added layers of complexity, as systems had to be designed for modular shipment, assembly, and seamless integration into a constrained building footprint.

Challenges

  • Navigating retrofit limitations within an existing facility layout.
  • Ensuring compliance with strict pharmaceutical safety and contamination control requirements.
  • Delivering high-pressure systems capable of maintaining airtight integrity.

Solutions

  • Designed a dual air tunnel system with large service vestibules for easy access and maintenance.
  • Integrated explosion-proof exhaust sections supported by roof-mounted plume fans.
  • Mounted condensing units directly on the roof with access via service ladders.
  • Shipped in nine pre-assembled sections for efficient on-site installation.
  • Delivered systems capable of 9” w.g. pressure with <0.5% leakage.
